Design from a Distance

Design from a Distance

An unusual project for us, clients living in California built a new home in Pittsburgh with goals to have a similar feel to their homes in San Francisco and Lake Tahoe. Our challenge was to not only design a home with their adventurous lifestyle, extensive art collection and personal style in mind, but to do so remotely, mostly through email communication. The couple remained on the West Coast throughout the two-year process with only occasional visits. Utilizing email and overnight packages as our key mode of communication was the biggest challenge, but we rose to the occasion. "Having someone trust you to that extent is a great responsibility and a great privilege," says Sue.

The final result echoes the clients' Tahoe home with beautiful use of color and a space that is comfortable, livable, and warm.

"We can't offer enough positive compliments. Sue and her staff helped us through the full cycle of planning, designing, and construction of our new home. Many times her knowledge and insight helped us improve our design and helped us through difficult decisions during construction. Her taste and decorating eye provided the final and finishing touches."

Designing for Special Circumstances

Designing for Special Circumstances

Moving into and decorating a new home has its stressful moments, but knowing that you’re creating the perfect space for a unique circumstance, helps to ease the anxiety.

A woman came to us explaining that her aging sister, with disabilities, needed a home that could better accommodate her physical impairments.

Working hand-in-hand with the architect and his team, we created a lovely, highly functional one level home that suited our client perfectly. Beautiful, resilient fabrics were specified for upholstery in the family room. Our client’s special needs were answered with style and comfort.

"Everything looks great. Not only does the house look absolutely fabulous, but my sister has adjusted so well because all of her stuff was in place."

Dream Home Becomes Reality

Dream Home Becomes Reality

At Meadeworth, we love bringing client’s design dreams to reality. This story is one of our favorites, showcasing how balance and retreat can be found in a well designed home.

A few years ago, a successful businessman called upon Meadeworth to help build his family’s dream home. His wife, a trained architect with an eye for artistic details, and their teenage daughters worked with us to create a home that was uniquely theirs. Their strong desire to bring the natural world and tranquil influences into the home guided our design. Their extensive art collection from world travels brought interest when those items were added to the transitional décor. This room’s proportions please the eye and show a quality of craftsmanship and attention to detail. Vistas and views were considered with the selection of each new furniture piece and decorative object.

“Sue and her staff coordinated the collaboration of all the skilled craftsman on our project. The results are outstanding.”

One Piece Can Guide Our Process

One Piece Can Guide Our Process

The entryway in this home is not trendy, traditional perhaps, but certainly not typical. Organic in content, harmonious in detail, nothing stops the movement or view through the home, outdoors and back. The antique Irish table with highly figured marble top shows the imperfections of handmade, wooden peg construction. It is over 200 years old, purchased from Harrods in the 1920s and brought to the La Tourelle Residence (the Edgar Kaufman home) and now to this new homeowner. It caught the eye of the owner-architect early and became central to this room. The old clay figure, and Oriental temple altar offer peace and welcome to everyone who enters.

"Sue excels in her ability to assess your needs and ideas and transform them into a finished project."
